About

What these writings are

One publication a month, on one precise subject, with its sources. The purpose is to make a state of knowledge readable, including what is uncertain in it, not to give an opinion on an individual situation.

The sections

  • Paper of the month, a recent article read and discussed: what it shows, in how many patients, and what it does not show.
  • The expert, an interview with a clinician or a researcher in the field.
  • The puzzle, a constructed clinical case, for teaching.
  • The disagreement, two readings of the same data, set side by side.
  • Question of the month, a question of practice, treated briefly.

The public clinical case

The cases presented in “The puzzle” are composite: built from several situations and altered so that no individual can be recognised. This statement appears at the top of every page concerned.

The framework

These publications follow the French code of medical ethics, in particular article R.4127-19-1 on informing the public and article R.4113-110 on the declaration of links of interest, together with the charter for physicians who create content of the French National Council of the Order of Physicians.

In practice: no patient testimonial, no comparison with another physician or another department, no superlative, no promise of result, no encouragement to book an appointment. An uncertain result is presented as uncertain.
